Nora Kasper - A teacher is not a sage on the stage, but a guide on the side.
Geneva Tolliferreo-Our initial response to the statement is that we believe that the general statement is true. Our thought after reading the other responses is that diversity is evident, in the overall statements of everyone. We regard this as an important issue because deposits are necessary for withdrawals, as you can not depend on the interest rates, as there is often not much to draw from (especially initially). Deposits by the teacher should assist the student with discovery.
Regina Toscani - The "depositing" of knowledge is only a small part of teaching. With each "deposit" comes "interest" which could be new connections being made, generalizing of knowledge, an increase motivation to learn, etc. As teachers we must also be aware of how we are attempting to deposit information.. If the way we are doing these causes the students' banks to "close" then are teaching is not effective. we could also be, unknowingly, causing resentment towards education from the students.
