My Experience. Speaking with a professor in the Biology department the other day about the new format of introductory biology at Bryn Mawr College made me reconsider my exploration of education and learning in this particular course, Brain, Education, and Inquiry. One thing the professor said that I found intensely interesting was how the most common complaint about the new course was that there was no text book; from my understanding, there was no lack of readings assigned, but still, a book of “facts” was what seemed to be the most requested. A common reason for this was that many felt they would not be prepared for the MCAT later on, or for upper level sciences, simply because they would not learn a standard set of facts.

How Marijuana Could Change America

 In 1963, after six years of writing and research, Betty Friedan’s groundbreaking book-length study of women in contemporary society, The Feminine Mystique, was published. This book was very influential and is even credited by some as the beginning of second-wave feminism. What is far more fascinating than the success of the book, however, is the individual and political success of Betty Friedan, who, in 1966, went on to found one of the largest and most important feminist organizations in the world, the National Organization for Women. 

Here’s a story of how I’ve grown and learned things
From sharing stories
I will start out with how I walked into class
And sat there listening 

I was very quiet
Too nervous to say anything
That was doubting
I kept my thoughts to myself,
Focusing on reactions of the people who were busy shouting
But then after a few weeks
I let my persona leak

And my tension disappeared

I used to be shy, shy, shy
Now I’m bold, bold, bold
I’m molded by the stories my classmates told
They opened up my eyes
Now I see in different lights
I learned things aren’t always black and white

This is a story of how the Earth and its inhabitants were made. There used to be a time when there was no Earth. Where the Earth sits today, there used to be space. And next to this space were two planets called Mars and Venus, which were ruled by Asel and Cioglu, respectively.

I’ll Make a Mawrtyr Out of You…

Imagine you and your boyfriend were lying in bed, holding each other, comfortably and delightfully. And all of a sudden, he called you by his previous girlfriend’s name. What would you do? Did he call the ex’s name because he still had feelings for her? Or did he, as he would defend for himself, just make a slip of tongue? And can we judge whom your boyfriend truly loved by that slip? To understand what he was really thinking about at that moment, we have to examine what slips of the tongue are and what they can tell us.
